An international or Thai driving license is required to drive in Thailand. Riding a motorcycle or scooter in Thailand can be dangerous. On average 38 people a day die in motorcycle accidents in Thailand. You should take the same safety precautions as in your home country. The Thai law that safety helmets must be worn is widely ignored: a contributing factor in many tourist deaths each year. There is a fine of 300THB for not wearing a helmet (pillion passenger not required!)

There is no Thai Insurance for motorbikes and most are illegally hired at around 150-200 THB per day.

Warning: Thai driving is very poor especially motorbikes and beware that if you have an accident it is deemed your fault regardless and you will have to pay damages of the Thai party even if their fault!
