Phuket Island

Phuket - "The Pearl of the Andaman" - is one of the world's premier destinations. Phuket villa rentals and condo rentals, for long term stay or for short holiday, offer many distinct advantages over a standard hotel - including luxury, privacy, and exclusivity - often at a comparable price.

Ao Phor
Ao Phor is a sea-front community located at the entrance of Phang Nga Bay. The marina sports a host of boating features and the pier is a departure point for travelling to surrounding islands. In the quiet north east corner of the island, the area enjoys hilly forests and fantastic views of the bay. Easy access to the airport and nearby Mission Hills Golf Course add to the attraction of this peaceful location.
Ao Makham
The sea port terminal, Ao Makham is a channel between Koh Taphao Yai and the main island of Phuket north of Cape Panwa. Having been well dredged during the construction of the Phuket deep-water port, the passages north and south are buoyed and easily navigable.
Bang Tao
This wide-open stretch of sand is one of Phuket’s largest beaches. This former tin mining region has been transformed into luxurious beachside destination for tourists with its high-end properties, a world-class golf course and numerous five-star resorts. The beach itself is one of the busier on the northwest side of the island, but still relatively peaceful when compared to Patong and Karon Beaches. The Laguna Complex also shares this strip of white sand, which is an exclusive residential and beachside resort.
Boat Lagoon
On the east coast and next door to Royal Phuket Marina a favorite of expats who wish to live and moor their yacht in the lagoon. Only 10 minutes north of Phuket Town, shopping malls, hospitals.
Bypass
Most of the large shopping malls are to be found in this area including Central Festival, Home Pro, Tesco, Big C and many more.
Cape Panwa
The cape is on the east coast and very quiet compared to the west coast with many top hotels and stunning views across the bay to Chalong. Now becoming more popular with expats for living. It has the only deep sea port on the island. Close to Phuket town.
Chalong
Chalong Bay is situated on the southeast coast of Phuket, owning a large pier where tour boats and diving expeditions are boarded. This isn’t a great beach for sunbathing or swimming, but taking a stroll along Chalong Pier always provides great views of the outlaying island. Within a short distance of the pier, you will find some high quality beachside restaurants and bars to enjoy.
Chengtalay
Just north of Laguna and Layan surrounded by green hills with nearby Layan, Bang Tao sandy golden beaches with tranquil bays and pristine blue waters.
Dulwich
The location of famous British Curriculum International School (formerly Dulwich College ) only 20 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes to Phuket Town. Boarding available for pupils over 9 years old. (Kindergarten to Grade Twelve)
Kalim Beach
Just north of Patong with a rocky bay and gateway to Kamala the next beach up, many up market villas overlooking Patong Bay high on the hills surrounding and the headland.
Kamala Beach
This two kilometre long stretch of sand is situated on the west coast, south of Surin and north of Patong. This is another relatively peaceful beach when compared to the major tourist laden beaches. Here you can enjoy a secluded afternoon sunbathing or relaxing in the nearby restaurants that offer great sea-views.
Karon Beach
Karon Beach is situated south of Patong on the west coast of Phuket. This is one of Phuket’s most picturesque and longest beaches that benefits from mountainous sand dunes and a sprinkling of casuarinas and palm trees. Karon Beach is infamous for its violent riptides during the months of May-October, so one should be wary and keep a lookout for the red flags. Many people succumb to the riptides each year with high fatality rates, so please be careful. Surrounding Karon Beach is many restaurants, markets and bars you can take advantage of when visiting.
Kata Beach
Kata Beach has to be one of the cosiest and idyllic beaches in Phuket. The beach is sheltered by tall palm trees and is great for snorkelling in the nearby coral reefs and observing the vast array of tropical marine life. This beach can get busy in the high season months over Christmas and New Year, but generally this is a nice beach to relax and unwind. There is also great surf at Kata Beach, where equipment can be hired from the shops adjoining the beach.
Kathu
Famous for its waterfall, and the very centre of the island with 3 golf courses near by Loch Palm, Red Mountain and Phuket Country Club. Near to Patong and the main shopping malls such as Central Festival, Tesco Lotus, Big C and the International and Bangkok hospitals.
Koh Maprao
Even though Koh Maphrao (Coconut Island) is only two kilometers away from the east coast of Phuket, the atmosphere on the two islands is very different. Phuket is known for its full range of development with facilities and bustling lifestyle, while Koh Maphrao is a peaceful isle set in natural surroundings. Koh Maphrao is one of Phuket’s minor islands. Looking over from Laemhin pier, Koh Maphrao is just a stone’s throw away.
Koh Sirey
Koh Sirey on the east side of Phuket Town sometimes feels more like a small cape than an island. Covering only about 20sqkm, most of Koh Sirey is delightfully free of construction and driving along its leafy eastside coastal road with its rubber plantations is a pleasure. It really is like Phuket 20 years ago.
Laguna
You could be in Florida with its manicured lawns, lagoons and being famous for its five star hotels and resorts and golf course. Many top restaurants, good shopping and Bang Tao beach stretching around the bay. An expat favorite for living with row on row of large villas in secure estates.
Layan
Just north of Bang Tao beach, Layan beach is probably one of best kept secrets on Phuket sheltered by caserina trees and free from the tourist throng. A really tranquil location with no beach chairs, umbrellas or tinkers pestering. Clean golden sands and clear waters welcoming you.
Loch Palm
At the Loch Palm Golf Club at Kathu, you have the choice of two high-quality golf courses at your disposal. The long-established Loch Palm Golf Course and the recently built Red Mountain Golf Course are both supremely constructed courses set to test even the best players. The Loch Palm Golf Course is centred around its Crystal Lake, which is a massive 48 acres in size.
Mai Khao Beach
Surprisingly enough, this is the longest beach in Phuket. Situated in the far north of the island, this beach is also known as the ‘airport beach’, due to its close proximity to Phuket International Airport. This beach is a typical northern Phuket beach, generally deserted and a great place to relax. Swimmers should be careful because of the steep slopes, which hold many unseen dangers.
Nai Harn Beach
Lauded by many as the best beach on the island, Nai Harn Beach has a reputation that precedes itself. The beach is situated on the southwest coastline and is the proverbial sight for sore eyes. This picturesque stretch of golden sands and azure blue waters is the quintessential photograph opportunity – it really is that scenic! The towering jungle-laden mountains protect the beach from the elements, although the riptides can be quite dangerous from May-October. Adjoining this great beach are five-star resorts such as the The Royal Phuket Yacht Club. A children’s park and Buddhist temple are also within walking distance from the beach.
Nai Thon Beach
When people use the term 'untapped', they were thinking of Nai Thon Beach. This secluded bay clings to the south side of Sirinat National Park and is a thing of immense natural beauty. The beach is ideal for swimmers, not only because of the privacy you receive, but also because the bay is protected at both ends by granite outcrops that serve as a shield against the elements.
Nai Yang
Situated just south of Mai Khao Beach in the north of the island, Nai Yang is an isolated beach that is great to visit if you enjoy peace and tranquillity. Surrounded by tall pines that provide excellent shade, Nai Yang Beach is also famous for its nearby coral reefs and its sea turtle inhabitants. This is a great beach for exploration, families and picnics.
Pa Klok
Large parts of the coast in Paklok, on Phuket's eastern side, is covered by mangrove forest. During low tide, local people, mostly fishermen, walk on the mud flats between the mangrove trees that look like they have been planted on land. When the tide comes in, the trees are under water again. But there are also some fine sandy beaches located in between the mangroves.
Patong Beach
Patong is Phuket's number one tourist destination and you will notice this when visiting the beach. During the high season months (November to April), the beach can become very chaotic, but its unquestionable character keeps tourists coming back for more. Patong Beach is one of the longest beaches on the island but also one of the most developed. This is a great thing if you feel like a coffee from Starbucks or a Big Mac, because all the major fast food outlets are positioned along its beach road.
Phuket Town
A must-do in Phuket is a walk in the old part of Phuket City, around Thalang, Dibuk and Krabi roads. The beautiful architecture along these roads will take you back to the charm of a century ago. In the 18th century, much of the island’s tin mining was carried out by Hokkien Chinese who built the old part of the city. In the early 20th century major European mining companies were invited in, and the major public infrastructure such as roads and canals was first built.
Rawai Beach
Situated at the southernmost tip of the island, Rawai Beach is the home of the famous sea gypsies and some of the finest seafood restaurants on the island. Although the surrounding ocean and islands are great for snorkelling, fishing, boat tours and diving, the beach itself is not really sunbathing material due to its unkempt appearance. Rawai Beach road however, is a great place to relax in a bar and enjoy the outlaying islands.
Surin Beach
This region on the west coast of Phuket owns the reputation of 'millionaire row' due to its luxury sea-view properties. Surin Beach enjoys the shelter of casuarinas trees lining its coastline. This secluded and peaceful beach is a favourite with tourists in the know. This is a great spot for relaxing in the subtropical clime, however, be careful if swimming because the steep slopes can create unseen dangers with powerful riptides, especially during the monsoon season. Surin Beach is also home to some great beachside restaurants such as the Catch Beach Club.
Thalang
Thalang is the northernmost district (amphoe) of Phuket province, the other two being Meuang and Kathu. To the north is Takua Thung of Phang Nga Province, separated by the Pak Prah strait. Thalang contains the Khao Phra Thaeo Non-hunting Area, which protects a swath of rainforest. The Heroines Monument in the south of the district commemorates the local heroines Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon, who forced the Burmese army to retreat.
Blue Canyon Golf Club
The Blue Canyon Country Club has become Phuket’s most famous golf club, with its two top-quality championship courses. The world-famous Canyon Course and its adjoining Lakes Course are the proverbial golfer’s paradise. Top names in world golf such as Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Fred Couples and Retief Goosen have all played the Canyon course in Asian Tour Events such as the Johnnie Walker Classic. Both courses are tree-lined with carpeted fairways and dangerous water hazards.
Mission Hills Golf Club
Golfing demigod, Jack Nicklaus, designed the Phuket branch of the world-famous Mission Hills brand. How is that for name-dropping! The Mission Hills Golf Course is one of the flattest in Phuket, but nonetheless is still a testing experience. This 18-hole golf course is set over an area of 6,806 yards of Paspalum Sea Isle 1 grass fairways and Paspalum Sea Isle 2000 grass greens. One of the unique features of the course is that 9 holes are actually floodlit and can be played at night.
Banyan Tree Golf Course – Laguna Phuket
The golf magazine, Asian Golf Monthly, rated Banyan Tree Golf Course in the ‘Top Ten Best Golf Resorts in Asian’. This par-71, 18-hole golf course is Phuket’s only resort-based golf club. Featuring a scenic environment built upon natural lagoons, the Laguna Golf Club owns undulating fairways and hazardous water features to manoeuvre around. The mountainous backdrops and nearby Andaman Ocean creates wonderful conditions to play a leisurely round or two.
Royal Phuket Marina
The Royal Phuket Marina is an expansive and exclusive lifestyle marina, which not only offers world-class yachting facilities, top class restaurants and a fitness & health club, but also high-end luxury properties by the boatload. This state-of-the-art marina has become Phuket’s ‘place to be’ for the trendy crowd and is a fine destination in the evenings when visiting restaurants such as Skippers Bar & Restaurant, Limoncello, Las Anges and the Boathouse Regatta Restaurant.
Phuket Country Club
The Phuket Country Club in Kathu owns two golf courses, which are the best value for money on the island. The Old Course is the main 18-hole course that defines the club, and the 9-hole Country Club Course is a water-laden and tricky course that might require an extra trip to the club shop for more balls. The Old Course is one of the most popular courses on the island and is centred around the large lake. This tree and jungle-laden course is best enjoyed by high handicappers because of its wide fairways and very playable holes.
Phunaka Golf Club
This is Phuket’s newest built golf course, situated opposite Chalong Temple off Choafa Road West. Although this 9-hole course is in its early stages and will need more time to grow into its surroundings, its value for money prices and mountainous scenery still makes it a great place for a quick round. Alongside the array of water hazards and sand traps, the greens and fairways are in good condition for a course so young.
Yacht Haven Marina
Situated at Laem Phrao, close to Sarasin Bridge at the northernmost point of Phuket, you will find the Yacht Haven Marina, which can be accessed by the east side of the island during any tide. The marina has been operational since 1997, owning 150 berths for vessels as large as 60 metres. Due to its convenient location within close proximity to Phang Nga Bay, Yacht Haven has become the home away from home for the rich and famous.
